Super interesting about the difficulty deleting 🤔 also the preferences made me laugh 🤭

I too am growing tired of plot based media, as it turns out??

You are ahead of your time. At least in TV procedurals, I always felt the plots were highly manipulative to carry you over commercial breaks.

...you should A/B test slapping your friend in the face and see which story ends up more entertaining, the AI one or the real one...

Social media applications of this tech are about as dystopian as it gets. I appreciate you covering these topics in a measured way, without fan-boy zeal or spurning disregard. I cited this newsletter in a recent post of my own (I don't write exclusively about AI, but I've been thinking a lot about where moviemaking and the film industry [two separate things] are headed). I'd love to know where you fall: https://open.substack.com/pub/bradyevanwalker/p/the-death-and-weird-rebirth-of-moviemaking

I think you're on the money. Before AI has touched a thing, the movie/tv industry is in serious peril due to digital video eroding its revenue. Film/TV makes less money, meaning there's less money to make more of it. The costs will need to be reduced drastically for it to make sense financially. Dedicated filmmakers will find creative ways to get their ideas produced & distributed (as they've done already on social media), and AI will certainly be part of that. I think the real question is "What's the value of a movie today? In five years?" Doug Shapiro writes about this very well.

100%. I worry that the financial viability of long-form cinematic storytelling (erstwhile known as movies 🤣) will, in 5 years time, be on the level with music, such that it's only a few lucky artists, a few more engineered successes, and a bunch of dinosaurs who can make a decent living.

Great job, my compliments. May I ask if I can receive an invitation code from you? I would be infinitely grateful.

Unfortunately I have none left to give. If I get more I will give one to you.

Good writeup as usual. The only thing I disagree with is the idea that the opposite of "plot-based media" is necessarily "feed-based media."

From the perspective of Gen-Alpha specifically, there is "sandbox media," (e.g. Roblox) which is not based on linear plot or a feed, but is instead an open-sourced gaming/economy engine where you can socialize with your friends through an ecosystem of open-sourced worlds. Sora is a step in this direction, but not a full send—it's still a sandbox/feed hybrid. I see more gen-AI sandboxes on the horizon.

'feed media' is not the right term exactly. I originally had 'meme-media' but that felt too restrictive too. I'm open to crowd-sourcing a better term in the comments section.

You bring up some good points about scanning yourself at the end

It's all about marketing. A black orb that scans your iris for the World Coin financial ledger is decidedly less appealing than a fun TikTok app that scans your face so you can make silly videos with your friends.
